The Hair Dad is so amazing we thought you might want to know a little about his story. This is what he shared with us…..
About 4 years ago I was a single dad. I have been shaving my head pretty much my adult life, so I really didn't have a clue when it came to hair. I was having trouble with my daughter's hair. I could barely manage doing a ponytail. I felt pretty helpless. I didn't want her to go to daycare or school looking like a ragamuffin. I work at a trade school, and one of the programs they teach is Cosmetology. I had a student take about an hour and teach me the basics on a mannequin. I learned braids, buns, and ponytails.
That evening, I went home and practiced some of the styles I learned on her. It ended up being a fun time for us! We were actually snowed-in for the weekend, so a big part of that weekend we spent watching cartoons while I practiced doing different styles on her hair. After one of the styles I tried, she looked up at me and said "You did a good job Daddy!" That is the first time I can remember making my daughter proud of me. I knew I wanted to keep doing that.
A few months later, and after much practice, the Huffington Post ran an article about me and the styles we created. It was an instant life changing moment. The story went viral, being seen all over the world. I ended up being a guest on the Rachel Ray show and being talked about by all the daytime TV shows. It was a very turbulent time in my life! I was asked by so many people to show tutorials on the styles I've done. That's when I started my Facebook page.
I've been doing free classes in my community for other dads to learn how to do hairstyles. It's my way of giving back to the community that has been very supportive of me. I have my Facebook page, The Hair Dad, where I show they latest styles I've attempted. And I have just launched my website, thehairdad.com, to show all of the tutorials I've done, along with any products I've used in the tutorials, like Whirl-a-Style. :)
