You won’t believe what I’ve been up to the past week! I can hardly believe it! I’m going to jump right in to the good stuff! On Monday, I attended the 71st Annual Broadway World Theater Awards at the Lyric Theater on 42nd street. The ceremony honored stand-out performers who made their Broadway’s debuts in the past year. One Juilliard alum, Alexander a Sharp, was honored for his starring role in “The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night”. Chita Rivera was honored with a lifetime achievement award- she doesn’t look a day over 50- but she’s actually 82 and still performing! On Tuesday I worked the Juilliard Club Benefit. The theme of the evening was “Summer in the City”, and I was in charge of greeting people in the lobby of Juilliard and running the silent auction! There were greats things up for auction- everything from Bose speakers to trapeze lessons to Broadway show and dinner packages! I had a blast mingling with people and telling them about all of the great options. The host of the event was none other than Danielle Brooks, Juilliard Drama alum and star of the Emmy award winning Netflix series Orange is the New Black! The event was a great success! I even managed to snag a little treat from the gelato cart before the evening was over. I must say, on Wednesday morning I was exhausted from all of the excitement of the night before- but I didn’t have time to be tired! On Wednesday afternoon, I represented Juilliard along with two other Student Ambassadors at an “Open Day” at the Chinese Consulate! There were students from Fordham, Columbia, New York University, and many others. There were panel discussions about Chinese-American relations, and we learned a little bit about Chinese education, politics, culture, technology, and economics. At the end of the day, we were treated to a performance by a traditional Chinese music ensemble and a segment of a Classical Chinese opera. After that, we were served the best Chinese food I’ve ever eaten!
I finished off the week with a Summer Kick-Off party at a friend’s house. After working 9am-5pm all week, I had a very relaxing weekend! I even started doing a yoga class at a wonderful place in my neighborhood called Yoga to The People. It’s open to all levels and it’s donation based! Perfect place for an economical college student like me! I can’t wait to see what else this summer will hold- it’s only the first week of June.
