Well, I’m writing to you as an official adult! I turned 21 on Sunday, and I had the best weekend of all time. It started on Saturday night with some friends, pizzas, and lots of fun! On Sunday, I celebrated in almost all NYC neighborhoods. On Sunday, I started with brunch in SoHo. Then, I went to the Museum of Moving Image in Astoria, Queens. I am a huge fan of the television show Mad Men, and the museum just opened an exhibit featuring major props, costumes, and even two full sets from the show. I was in heaven! Astoria is a predominantly Greek neighborhood, so I had to stop for some classic Baklava. Next, I went down Brooklyn, to Brighton Beach, which is a Russian neighborhood, and had some classic Russian food on the beach. But alas! The day was not over- I ended up at my favorite Italian restaurant downtown on Spring Street for some chocolate lava cake! I’d say it was the best birthday celebration I’ve ever had.
Tonight is also the opening night of Juilliard’s Spring Dances Repertory Concert! Yesterday my cast had our dress rehearsal and it went well. There were about seven photographers taking photos- the New York Times came to photograph the event. Jean and Jennifer, who staged Biped (the Cunningham piece I’m dancing in), invited some members of the original Biped cast as well as other Ex-Cunningham dancers to come get a sneak peek before tonight’s show. As you could imagine, everyone was a mix of nervous and excited. I perform Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday matinee. Well, I’m off to get a massage so I can get through all of the shows!
