56th Entry, October 14th, 2016

When I looked at my agenda last Sunday night, I realized I was rehearsing every night and I immediately scheduled an appointment with my masseuse for Friday night after my final rehearsal. I must say it was the best decision I made all week! Monday was the first day of our New Dances rehearsal process. Yes you’re right- I am rehearsing last year’s New Dances piece for a performance next week at New York City Center’s Fall for Dance Festival, while simultaneously working on this year’s New Dances piece! On Monday we started rehearsals with Kate Weare. We jumped into some intense partnering work and before I knew it, three hours flew by and rehearsal was over! We worked with Kate on Monday Wednesday, and Friday, and we rehearsed with Brian Brooks on Tuesday and Thursday. I can’t believe I am performing this upcoming week! We only have two more rehearsals in the studio before we have our first tech rehearsal in the theater on Wednesday. The lineup for the evening is incredible. There are companies from around the world such as the Australian Ballet and Les Ballet Jazz De Montréal. The most exciting part? We open the show on both nights that we perform!

I’m relieved that some of my daily classes have been canceled so I have time to prepare and rest for the performances. I had a chance to go home to see my family this weekend and regroup before I perform. My mom, dad, brother, and grandmother are all coming to see the show on Thursday. I love that I get to see them twice in one week!

And in case you were wondering, I have already made another appointment with the massage therapist for the day after the last performance. There will be soreness in my foreseeable future! I’ll report back with how the show went in my next entry- wish me luck!
