Today I enjoy my final day of freedom! With yesterday’s temperature reaching a shocking 67 degrees, we New Yorkers experienced a real Spring day! Alas, today the temperature drops to 19 degrees, and we are back into a deep freeze. Tomorrow afternoon I return to school. We have to come back early to rehearse because our Spring Repertory show is a week away! Some people are upset that we have to be at school on Friday and Saturday, but I think it’s important we work in the studio before we start tech week. After all, we’ve had two weeks off, and it’s important to get back into the groove before we head into the theatre. I am so excited to perform Twyla Tharp’s Baker’s Dozen! I think that I will have a whole new outlook on the piece. I think it’s great to have some time away from the piece because when you return to dancing it, you find little nuances and moments that you didn’t realize were there!
Naturally, I’ve been taking ballet class, Pilates, and some other forms of cross training at the gym all break. It’s been wonderful to create my own schedule every day. I’ve gotten ahead in my schoolwork (a 7-page research paper-yikes!). I know once the excitement of performance week begins, then the performances, and then the post-show exhaustion kicks in, the last thing I want to do is write a big paper! My roommate/best friend just returned from sunny California last night. I can’t believe she was gone for two weeks! It felt like so much longer. It was great to catch up and have my best friend back! I couldn’t help but tease her about her tan; apparently it’s a balmy 70 degrees over in Cali. No hard feeling here or anything!
I’m looking forward to seeing my friends tomorrow! Before rehearsal we have ballet class with almost the entire division! It’ll be wild to have class with 50 people, but I’m excited to catch up with everyone.
Theatre week is upon us! For me, it’s the most wonderful time of the year!
